The West Coast Story
As we flow down the river of life there are times when we crave solitude and times when we crave community. One of the biggest life lessons I’ve come to learn, is that we are social animals, and separation equals suffering. Looking back in my life, the moments that were shared burn the brightest in the smoky dream. In these embers of connection we get to experience every side of ourselves, like tiny moving cells in a universal being, continuously returning home to a place of oneness and love.
Born from a sketch I dreamt up in the Fall of 2017, I wanted to create a visual representation of the isolation, extreme cold, and vibrant beauty that makes surfing in the Pacific North West so unique. In the foreground the embers symbolize light, warmth, safety, simplicity and love. The symmetry of the waves and surfers signify balance, dualism, equality and perfection in nature. Big thanks to Pete Devries for creasing this board and turning it into a canvas. Was imagining all the beautiful turns and airs this stick had throughout its lifetime..
