The West Coast Story
Do our souls choose the bodies they partner up with since birth, or is it an union orchestrated by a divine force deep in the universe..? As our cells self-organize and create a vessel for movement and experience, our sensory systems send out roots that tie us to the places we grow into. After our family, it’s the second strongest connection we carry throughout our lives, a navigation point, an ecosystem support network, and a place to ground down and heal. Like a tiny mycelial thread, it holds us all in place as we explore the far corners of the earth. It reminds us who we are, and when the pull becomes too strong, it leads us back to the place where it all began. Forged from the ancient spirits of our coastlines, and all it’s creatures, built on a lifetime of smells, textures, sounds, sights, memories and feelings. It’s the essence of our beings, it’s elements that create us, it’s HOME.
Had so much fun dreaming up this piece for Jessica at Arbutus Massage Therapy on Beaufort Ave. Comox. She wanted a collage of all her favourite places in the Valley for her clinic lobby. Really made me appreciate all the outdoor activities I grew up with in this beautiful corner of the Island. The deer represents the true soul of K’omoks, a watcher at peace, symbolizing the Puntledge River and upper tributaries that breathe life into our Valley. Have so much love and gratitude for this home base and the human it’s shaped me into!
